At Buttsbury Pre-school Billericay, we offer a structured yet flexible day that allows children to engage in a wide range of activities, fostering their growth and development.
Here’s a glimpse of what a typical day looks like:
Our doors open, and we warmly welcome all children to Buttsbury Pre-school Billericay. Our friendly team greets them with a smile and supports them as they settle in. Children walk in independently (where possible) and are encouraged to hang their belongings, such as shoe bags, coats, and lunch boxes, on their designated hooks. They then register themselves on our self-registration boards, with assistance from a staff member if needed.
Children have the freedom to explore both our indoor and outdoor play areas. They can choose from a variety of engaging activities, including:
Craft table
Playdough table
Discovery area
Small world area
Construction area
Home corner
Book corner
Water tray
Mud kitchen
Sand cabin
Tower Bridge
Additionally, they can visit our snack table, offering healthy options like breadsticks, crackers, houmous, apples, cucumbers, milk (alternatives available), and water.
A bell rings as a five-minute reminder for tidy-up time.
It’s time to tidy up! A bell rings to signal both staff and children to work together to put away toys and activities in their designated boxes. This encourages responsibility and teamwork.
During Circle Time, children participate in small group learning activities related to the weekly topic and their age and stage. These activities may include:
To finish, we read stories and sing songs together, fostering social and language skills in a fun, interactive way.
At 11:30 AM, some children go home (collected from the front door), while others stay for Lunch Club and the afternoon session. On Mondays from September 2025, we also offer our Risers session, designed to help children prepare for school readiness. These sessions may include visits to Buttsbury Primary School’s library bus and conservation area, ensuring a smooth transition to school for our Risers at Buttsbury Pre-school Billericay.
For those attending in the afternoon, children are greeted, hang up their bags and coats, and self-register on our board.
After putting their belongings away, the children are free to explore both the indoor and outdoor play areas, continuing to develop their skills through a variety of activities. After free play and snack time, the bell is rung for tidy-up time is carried out.
For children exceeding their funded entitlement hours, the day winds down, and they may go home at this time. Please refer to our Fees and Funding page for more details about funding and additional hours.
For the children who stay with us, our Circle Time activities begin just like the morning session.
It’s time to say goodbye! Parents are invited to enter the playroom to collect their children. For security purposes, staff will check passwords, and parents can take this opportunity to speak with their child’s key person.
This schedule is designed to create a balanced day of structured learning, free play, and socialisation, offering each child at Buttsbury Pre-school Billericay the best opportunities for growth and development.
