Message to parents
As the
pre-school is a charitable run organization, "one" of the
roles taken on by the parents that have formed the “The
Committee” is to provide much needed funds for the
pre-school through organizing various fund raising events
during the course of each year. Their time is freely given
and all funds raised are used to purchase equipment for the
pre-school.
Although
it is acknowledged that parents are “always” being asked for
money in one form or another, without these funds the
pre-school would have no other means of purchasing or
replacing new/old equipment. Fees cover only the
running costs of the pre-school therefore enabling us to
keep them as low as possible.
Any parent
wishing to participate in the organization of the events is
most welcome and should make themselves known to Mrs
Elderidge, who will put them in touch with a member of the
committee. Meetings are held every 6/8 weeks and although
it can be hard work, it can be fun to with lots of new friends
to be made. We are always looking for new ideas and
everybody’s input is valued, great or small.
Each year
an AGM is held in June at which parents are elected to
the committee, any parent interested in joining should make
themselves known to either Mrs Elderidge or a member of the
committee.
Events
Various
events are organised every year for both the purpose of
raising funds to replace toys and equipment and to give
something back to the children whose parents are supporting
these fund raising events.
We have the
Summer outing and Christmas parties for the pre-school
children as our way of giving something back. We also
have the Christmas Fair, are largest fund raiser each
November, along with pre-school photo's, Riser's video's,
Personalised Christmas gifts, Annual disco (sometimes
Summer, Halloween or Spring), plus many other smaller events
as new idea's are put forward.
As time
goes on we hope to give parents an insight into how these
events went and hopefully how much children and parents
alike enjoyed them. The following gives an insight into this
years Summer Outing, which was a huge success.
The Teddy Bears picnic
The Teddy Bears Picnic is held
in Lake Meadows. Pre-schools from all over Billericay
go along and enjoy this free event each year.

Notice
boards & communications
There is a
notice board in the entrance to the pre-school containing
information for parents. You will find staff/keyworker
details, committee details and notices regarding upcoming
events or important issues such as illness in the
pre-school. We recommend that you take the time to
glance at this each week.
Newsletters containing important information for parents are
sent out at intervals. Copies of these can be found by
clicking the newsletter icon on the home page.
Information letters e.g. Summer outing, Christmas parties,
are sent out in order to give parents adequate notice of a
particular event.
“Blue”
notes have been introduced in line with the Infant School,
as a means of advising parents of important or imminent
matters that need parent’s immediate attention.
May we
please remind parents to look in your child’s work bag each
session for anything that is not “arts & Crafts” work.

"Buttsbury
Pre-school has provided my daughter with a fun, stimulating
and friendly environment which was of great help in her
painless transition to infant school."

"Jack loves going to
pre-school. He had very few problems settling in due to the
kindness and expertise of the staff, however, if only he
would tell me a bit more about what he gets up to while he
is there!"

Parking
Although
the pre-school is not large, combined with the Infant School
and the Junior School opposite, we experience severe
congestion before and after school with parents delivering
and collecting children.
Can we
please therefore ask for your co-operation and bring the
following to your attention:
Parking
too close or opposite a junction can be an obstruction,
especially if by doing so, vehicles are forced to drive on
the wrong side of the road in the face of opposite traffic.
This is particularly so with the junction of Bush Hall Road
and Springfield Road which is a blind junction and highly
dangerous.
The
driving onto and/or parking on the footpath, even with just
two wheels on the pavement, is an offence.
The whole
object of placing yellow zig-zag lines on the road and
surface outside the Infant School is to discourage parking
within those limits on either side of the road. Whilst
failing to observe those limits creates no specific offence,
it is against the advice of the Highway Code and may form
the basis of prosecution for obstruction.
Police
often spot check the school vicinity so be aware.

10 things you need to know about – EARLY SCHOOLS ADMISSIONS
1.
Children do not legally have to go to school until the term
following their 5th birthday.
2. A
school cannot legally withdraw the offer of a place if the
child does not take it up immediately.
3.
Children develop at different rates and what is good for
some may not be good for others.
4. Your
child will not be academically disadvantaged by starting
school later and may benefit from becoming more socially
confident within the
less
intimidating atmosphere of a pre-school or Day Nursery.
5.
Pre-school staff are qualified professionals and follow
rigorous standards.
6.
Pre-schools offer better staff ratios than early years units
of schools – at least 1 staff per 8 children in pre-schools
and Day Nurseries compared to 1 staff to 13 children in
schools.
7.
Parents and carers should consult the staff at their child’s
Setting as well as the school – remember they can help you
decide what is best for YOUR CHILD.
8.
OFSTED inspects pre-schools and Day Nurseries yearly.
Schools are inspected approximately every 6 years.
9.
Sending your child to school early deprives the Setting of
funding jeopardising their livelihood – IF YOU DON’T USE IT,
YOU MAY LOSE IT!
